Welcome to the Writing Magazine Picture Book Prize!

What is the Picture Book Prize?

Run in conjunction with Writing Magazine and my agent, Julia Churchill, the Prize is aimed at unagented, unpublished picture book writers and hopes to enable talented writers to break into the competitive world of picture books.

What are the prizes?

The 2021 prizes are:

1st Prize – Consultation with top agent, Julia Churchill; a year’s subscription to Writing Magazine; £200 prize money

2nd Prize – A picture book critique by me, via Writing Magazine Writing Courses; a year’s subscription to Writing Magazine and £50 prize money

3rd Prize – A year’s subscription to Writing Magazine.

FEEDBACK:

There is brief feedback for all longlisted entries and detailed feedback for all shortlisted entries. 

What are we looking for?

  • An original, entertaining story.
  • A strong and captivating author voice.
  • Aimed at 0-6 year olds.
  • No more than 800 words.
  • Rhyming or non-rhyming.

When is the submission window?

You can submit ONE story only between 1st September and 31st October. Entries submitted after this time can unfortunately not be considered.

Entry fee is £5.00.
